GiESCO Meeting in Thessaloniki
This year, it is the majestic Thessaloniki in Macedonia, Greece that will be hosting the 21st GiESCO International Meeting (Group of international Experts for Cooperation on Vitivinicultural Systems). From June 23-28, for five fully intensive days, Thessaloniki will be the vitivinicultural centre of the world. The Meeting is held every two years and it brings together the best of viticultural research and innovation. It focuses on vine ecophysiology, vineyard management, grape and wine quality, and sustainable production. At this year's meeting in Thessaloniki, you will have the chance to visit some of the important vineyard regions of northern Greece, such as Naoussa, Amyndeo, Pangeon and Drama.
The Organizing Institution of 21st GiESCO International Meeting 2019 is the School of Agriculture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh). Prof. Stefanos Koundouras is the President of the committee and Prof. Laurent Torregrosa is Vice-President. AUTh is the largest University in Greece. It covers all academic disciplines, from science and medicine to the arts. It was founded in 1925, and is currently recognized as an internationally important center for education and research, following its long tradition of academic achievement. The School of Agriculture has a history of 85 years and was one of the first schools to be founded in the AUTh.
Celebrated academic personalities such as Alain Carbonneau, Gregory Jones, Markus Keller, Cornelis (Kees) van Leeuwen and many more, are the invited speakers of the meeting.
