My top Greek Wines on Instagram 2018

Just as last year (My top Wines on Instagram Part 1: Greek wines' version), the time has come for me to post my top wines for 2018 on Instagram. Once again, this year, a Thymiopoulos wine had the most likes, a stunning single vineyard Naoussa from Fitia that I initially tasted in Naoussa this fall and later on in Sweden during a presentation of Greek wine for  the Solera company.

Runner up, with a little help from my friend Terry Kandylis, was the Economou white from Sitia in Crete which is based on  the Vilana grape, and third, in the row, a mature vintage of Mouchtaro and Muses Estate. You can find me at Instagram at the Master and Commander account. The full list of your top wines in my Instagram account follow:

1. Thymiopoulos Single Terroir Naoussa Kayafas

Stunning, sensual wine.

2. Oikonomou Sitia (with a help by Terry Kandylis)

A sui generis wine from Yiannis Oikonomou although I am a bigger fan of his Assyrtiko.

3. Μuses Mouchtaro 2010

The expression of Mouchtaro grape by the lovely guys of Muses Estate. Dark, meaty and savoury. Totally gothic!

4. Κir Yianni Ble Tracter

The new label by Kir Yianni. I presume only for the Greek market.

5. Karamolegos Santorini

The Texsom Judges' Selection winner for 2017 Karamolegos Santorini 2016 paired with grilled octopus.

6. Lyrarakis Aggelis Liatiko

Hard to believe it but last year the previous vintage was again on number 6!

7. Oenops Vidiano and Costa Lazaridi experimental Chardonnay

The Vidiano grape expressed by the hands - off approach of Nikos Karatzas and the first hands-off 'natural' approach of Costa Lazaridi.

8. Mylonas Assyrtiko

I do love this Assyrtiko, I think it is one of the best non Santorini expressions.

9. Katsaros Estate 1993

The ultimate expression of a Greek mountain Cabernet. Breathtaking.

10. Sclavos Zakynthino (with a little help from the winemaker himself)

Fantastic new effort on Zakynthino grape.

Superb wines. From Sclavos I tasted, in Sami, Kaphelonia, the mavrodaphne of Kaphelonia. Beautiful. Also, about the Lie Yanni, I'm always proud when I manage to read Greek correctly ( sounds like 'without a tractor in my native hebrew) Cheers Tennis, for a beautiful review. Every visit to Greece fills me with amazement, for the passion and the brave wine making .
